This program will probe our current impeachment crisis but go further. We will begin by exploring today’s urgent questions about impeachment such as its role in our constitutional scheme, its background, and history, whether impeachment is a legal or political process, and the meaning of “High Crimes or Misdemeanors.” Just as important, we’ll then consider how we might improve or reshape the process for the future, taking a second look at alternative mechanisms considered by our Founders and peeking at how foreign countries have designed similar processes. Constitutional law expert Professor Perry Dane will lead this important discussion.
