Racism has been plaguing America for too long. The time has come for a candid, straightforward conversation on how hatred, deprivation, privilege, indifference, and inequality has haunted America for generations. How have these walls been built and how will they come down? This profound and challenging historical issue must be faced and addressed.
Lorna Hines-Cunningham LCSW, ACSW, received the NJ Mental Health Association’s prestigious Community Leadership Award and was described as a “visionary.” Her career spans more than 40 years where she held senior cabinet positions in New York State and New Jersey’s Office of Mental Health. Hines-Cunningham is currently Adjunct Professor at Ramapo College where she teaches graduate students on Cultural Diversity, Racism, Privilege, and Oppression. She continues to work with and recently visited “Nazareth Home for God’s Children” orphanage in Ghana helping to provide them with vital financial assistance and support. She maintains a psychotherapy practice in Teaneck, NJ.
Barbara Olshansky JD, MPH, CHR, has led a long and prestigious career championing human rights causes. A graduate of Stanford University Law School, who clerked for the Honorable Rose Elizabeth Bird, Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, Prof. Olshansky was appointed the Leah Kaplan Visiting Professor in Human Rights at Stanford, served on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Law. She worked twelve years ultimately as Deputy Legal Director for Center for Constitutional Rights where she earned praise for her courageous leadership role as Director-Counsel of Guantanamo Global Justice Initiative and many other human rights action suits. Also, she ran a yearly international human rights law and social work clinic in Namibia, Southern Africa for 9 years.
